Electric spring (ES) has been proposed to suppress the fluctuations of critical load voltage under the condition of the increasing proportion of renewable energy in the power grid, but existing popular control methods have not fully released its application potential. Therefore, a novel control strategy that enables it to operate in the entire scope is proposed in this study, which differs from the conventional methods since the fully known of all system parameters is not indispensable. Furthermore, a seamless operating mode switching method is discussed, which is important for practical application. In the end, the simulation results in PSCAD/EMTDC verify that the ES can operate stably in various regions, and can seamlessly switch between capacitive and inductive modes.
