Decision evaluation process in end-of-life systems management

Abstract: International audienceIn manufacturing sectors, firms are paying an increasing attention to sustainability concept with regard to their end-of-life products in order to respect environmental norms and satisfy the consumer sensitivity. This practise allows creating value by reintroducing dismantling and recovering parts and/or materials of end-of-life products into manufacturing process, or into maintenance process. Thus, deconstruction processes are developed in order to examine all activities addressing the e… Show more

“…Recent research on industrial EoL solutions include that regarding rolling stock [13], automobiles [14], ships [15], and aircraft vehicles [8,16,17]. The research focus ranges from the macro perspective of EoL strategies [8] to the micro perspective of the disassembly and dismantling process [18], as well as material management methods, i.e., the material recycling [19][20][21], and component management [17,22]. In addition, the economic and environmental impacts of the D&R process are also studied [4,23,24].…”

“…As a customer of an EPS, a manufacturer faces tremendous challenges in designing the processing system and selecting the appropriate technologies. While many decision-support frameworks have been proposed in the literature (e.g., Tan, et al 2006;De Felice and Petrillo 2014;Bouzarour-Amokrane, et al 2015), only a few studies have provided systematic models that consider intangible factors such as the customer's judgment of decision criteria.…”

“…The twelfth paper, "Decision Evaluation Process in End-Of-Life Systems Management" [13] by Yasmina Bouzarour-Amokranea, Ayeley Tchangani and Francois Peres, considers dismantling site location problem as multi-criteria/multi-objectives decision making problem and solves it using an AHP-BOCR (Analytic Hierarchy Process -Benefits, Opportunities, Costs, and Risks) approach based on qualitative and quantitative evaluations. A bipolar structuring framework is considered to distinguish positive and negative aspects in the elicitation/evaluation process to avoid compensation and satisficing game theory is used as suitable mathematical tool for recommendation process.…”
