Deep inelastic cross-section measurements at largeywith the ZEUS detector at HERA

Abstract: The reduced cross sections for e + p deep inelastic scattering have been measured with the ZEUS detector at HERA at three different centre-of-mass energies, 318, 251 and 225 GeV. The cross sections, measured double differentially in Bjorken x and the virtuality, Q 2 , were obtained in the region 0.13 ≤ y ≤ 0.75, where y denotes the inelasticity and 5 ≤ Q 2 ≤ 110 GeV 2 . The proton structure functions F 2 and F L were extracted from the measured cross sections.Dedicated to our friend and colleague Alexander Pro… Show more

“…The kinematic coverage of this experiment (JLab E00-002) is shown in Fig. 1 together with the coverage of world data: CERN [3,4], DESY [5,6], Jefferson Lab [7,18], and SLAC [2,23]. The present data extend the kinematic range in x at fixed low Q 2 to allow for more detailed studies of the x dependence, as well as for more deuteron and proton comparisons.…”

“…The data in Fig. 6 are primarily from the recent DESY H1 and ZEUS experiments [5,6]. In this latter kinematic regime, the longitudinal structure function F L is dominated by the gluon parton distribution function, and is well described by the PDF parametrizations, which do include these data.…”

“…Hence the improvement of the fit quality by adding the higher-twist corrections for Q 2 min = 1 GeV 2 is large and particularly pronounced for the fits using the NNLO DGLAP leading-twist part. Also a good description of the HERA F L data [12][13][14] is obtained down to the lowest measured values of Q 2 .…”
