Defects Appearing in the Surfacing Layers of Abrasion Resistant

Abstract: The surfacing technologies are used for constitution of protection layer against wear and is destined for obtaining coating with high hardness. Among many weldings methods currently used to obtain the hard surface layer one of the most effective way of hardfacing is using flux cored arc welding. This additional material gives more possibilities to make expected hard surface layer. Chemical composition, property and economic factors obtained in flux cored wire are much richer in comparison to these obtained wit… Show more

“…The welding processes can be grouped as follows: Hardfacing by arc welding -shielded metal arc welding, submerged arc welding; hardfacing by gas welding -oxyacetylene gas welding; hardfacing by combination of arc and gastungsten inert gas welding (TIG), gas metal arc welding; powder spraying -flame spraying, high velocity oxyfuel process, electric arc spraying and plasma transferred arc welding; and laser hardfacing/laser cladding [14]. Some of the welding methods that have been successfully used to apply hardfacings on substrates are: gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) [28], plasma arc welding (PAW) [29], laser beam welding [30,9], tungsten inert gas welding (TIG), gas welding [31], manual metal arc welding (MMAW) [32], shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) [13,18], and flux cored arc welding (FCAW) [33,34]. Shibe and Chawla [35] summarized the three types of hardfacing deposition techniques as thermal spraying, cladding and welding.…”

“…The cracks that can occur in the regeneration process are unacceptable by quality standards. The causes of cracks can be: brittle microstructure in the HAZ or weld / padding weld, hydrogen diffuses, high level of tensile stresses [2,3,5,8,12].…”

“…For larger defects or for the thicker layer, the use of the efficient method with the solid or cored wires will be more effective. Regeneration has to recreate the features of the used element, and it should occur in a commercially reasonable manner [2][3][4][5]10,16,18,20,21,28].…”
