Deficient Autoregulation and Lengthening of the Diffusion Distance in the Anterior Optic Nerve Circulation in Glaucoma: An Electro-Encephalo-Dynamographic Investigation

Abstract: Electro-encephalo-dynamographic investigations taken from 36 glaucoma patients showed that the autoregulative mechanism in the region of the anterior part of the optic nerve (apon) is disturbed and the ciliary perfusion pressure is altered in a characteristic manner. The results lead to the conclusion that glaucomatous ischemia occurring in the apon may mainly be due to the following causes and their combinations: (1) high IOP; (2) low blood pressure in the ciliary arterial circulation; (3) insufficiency of au… Show more

“…Vascular dysregulation is widespread in POAG, with abnormalities found at the optic nerve head, central retinal vessels, macula, choroid, and retrobulbar vessels . Systemic changes in POAG are exemplified as a dysregulated response to flow-mediated vasodilation at the brachial artery in both HTG and NTG, increased incidence of nocturnal systemic hypotension, decreased cerebral blood flow, carotid artery stiffness, ischemic heart disease, and increased levels of the vasoactive peptide endothelin-1, which plays a key role in vasoconstriction …”

“…Die Drucktoleranz des Sehnervenkopfes wird auch von anderen Autoren erwähnt [33,[38][39][40]. Richardson [33] stellte die Forderung auf, Methoden zur Bestimmung der Druckto leranz zu entwickeln; die von Robert [38] benutzte Methode ist technisch schwierig, was einer klinischen Anwendung bisher im Wege stand.…”
