Definition measurement unit with flexure hinges for a wind tunnel balance

Abstract: A definition measurement unit with flexure hinges, which will usually be applied as the main focus was directed on the measurement of definite forces, has been design for a wind tunnel balance. The character of various notch type flexure hinges was analysed in this paper, and two pairs of symmetric circular flexure hinges at 90 degrees was selected for a definition measurement unit. According to the definition measurement unit flexure hinge's arrangement for the performance and the mechanics characters of vari… Show more

“…The number of feasible designs and applications is very large. Wang 11 reported the design of several flexible hinges where the behavior of different crosssectional designs was analyzed. Zhu and Zhang 18 present the use of a monolithic flexure frame as a design strategy to reduce the total number of mechanical components.…”

“…3 And there has been considerable research on the combination of modeling and analysis techniques applied on strain gage wind tunnel balance. Smith et al, 4 Wang et al 5 and Richard and Norbert 6 showed the simulation of balance performance based on aerodynamic loads and mechanical responses. Published test results in Steinle 7 and Kammeyer and Rueger 8 are some of the most extensive literatures regarding common occurrences with strain gage balances, modeling the phenomenon as viscous elastic and temperature effects, which may significantly complicate the analysis.…”
