Definition of Simulated Driving Tests for the Evaluation of Drivers’ Reactions and Responses

Abstract: For the braking test, which has been widely employed in similar forms in the literature, it was shown how the reaction time, with respect to the pedal transition time, can have a higher dispersion due to the influence of external factors. For the lateral skid test, the following measures were identified as the most significant for application studies: the reaction time for the reaction phase, the second peak of the steering wheel angle for the first instinctive response, and the integral of the steering wheel … Show more

“…The lack of evidencebased results forces clinicians to evaluate steering torque in relation to clients' abilities, without reference to norms. As opposed to steering, braking abilities have been studied with agreed thresholds (Bartolozzi and Frendo, 2014;Horberry and Inwood, 2010). In our case, the client reached the breaking threshold.…”

“…Specifically, research on steering ability is scarce and to the best of our knowledge has been studied only in healthy individuals seated in a simulator (Bartolozzi and Frendo, 2014). In their study, the authors compared the results with limited literature and found large variations in steering ability among healthy drivers.…”

“…Previous studies mentioned above show that driving simulator is an effective tool to understand driving behaviour and study effects of other factors on it. Various other studies also used driving simulator addressing various behavioural and design related issues (Bella 2014,Bella, Calvi 2013,Antonson, Ahlström, Wiklund, Blomqvist, Mårdh 2013,Bartolozzi, Frendo 2014,Helland, Jenssen, et al 2016,Oron-Gilad, Ronen 2007,Papantoniou 2017.…”
