The catalytic synthesis of amides directly from primary alcohols and amines represents an atom-economical and environmentally benign methodology, which produces H 2 as the sole by-product. Over the past few years, several highly efficient metal-based catalytic systems have been developed for this green and sustainable synthetic procedure. This review will focus on the recent advancements and discoveries in this promising and hot research field which may allow possible new insights into catalyst improvement.
