Demand-driven supply chain operations management strategies – a literature review and conceptual model

Abstract: The literature on demand-driven supply chain operations management strategies (DDSCOMSs) is excellent in describing when, where and how the strategies can be used. However, managers of manufacturing companies usually employ more than one DDSCOMS when designing and operating their supply chains, thus needing to understand when, how and why two or more DDSCOMSs can be used in combination. The answers to these questions are not stated well in the literature. The purpose of this study is therefore to explore the r… Show more

“…The task of SCM is to synchronize supply with demand by providing demand-driven offers, i.e., creating and delivering value for the customer [25]. A purely demand-driven supply means "make-to-order" instead of "make-to-stock", is based on customer orders rather than forecasts, and prioritizes meeting customer needs.…”

“…Customers' perceived utility or willingness to pay for an item is referred to as value. Only if collaborative advantage creates a product that buyers are willing to pay for is it worthwhile to invest resources (Schmidt and Keil, 2013; Tiedemann, 2020). As a result, value creation on the demand side determines the value of supply-side resources.…”

“…Consequently, many companies move toward a Demand Driven Manufacturing (DDM) strategy [3]. DDM strategy aims to produce goods based on consumers' demand instead of sales or target forecasts [4]. According to Gartner, nearly 90% of production industries which are not demand-driven, are planning to be [5].…”
