“…The rabbit antisera against pure rat transferrin, a,-antitrypsin, a-fetoprotein, albumin and angiotensinogen have been described elsewhere [l, 3,8,19,341. For immunochemical staining, these were used at dilutions of 1:40 to 1:lOO.…”

“…according to Takahara et al [47] and Carlson and Stenflo [8], who have shown that this protein accounts for 1/26 of the total of rat serum proteins. Pure albumin and pure angiotensinogen were prepared as previously described [4, 391. Pure transferrin [19] and fibrinogen purified according to the method of Capet-Antonini [7] were kindly provided by Dr J. Foucrier and C. Legrzle, respectively. When necessary, samples to be tested were first concentrated up to 150 times by ultrafiltration through CF-5OA Centriflo membranes (Amicon).…”

“…Preparation of rabbit anti-rat transferrin antibodies Procedures for isolating rat transferrin and obtaining the corresponding antiserum have been described elsewhere (Foucrier et al, 1979). The specificity of the antiserum was assessed both by immunoelectrophoresis and by crossed immunoelectrophoresis (Weeke, 1973).…”

“…In these studies, we noticed that the reaction product specific for albumin antigenicity was in close association with the cytosolic surface of bound ribosomes. Evidence for the presence of other nascent plasma proteins on attached hepatic ribosomes has previously been published: albumin (Feldman et al, 1972;Guillouzo et al, 1976), transferrin and hemopexin (Foucrier et al, 1979), and fibrinogen . That the cytosolic surface of ribosomes is a site where nascent proteins could acquire their antigenic determinants does not agree with the present conception of protein synthesis conveyed by the signal hypothesis (Blobel, 1977;Palade, 1975).…”
