“…Tree‐ring‐based (dendrogeomorphic; Alestalo, 1971) methods have recently been proven to be a very good absolute dating approach regarding their temporal reach (up to one millennium; Zhang et al, 2019) and accuracy (several months; Stefanini, 2004) for past geomorphic process reconstruction. They have been successfully used for the spatiotemporal reconstruction of past debris flows (Bollschweiler et al, 2007; Šilhán et al, 2015), rockfalls (Perret et al, 2006; Trappmann et al, 2013), snow avalanches (Casteller et al, 2011; Voiculescu et al, 2016), landslides (Fantucci & McCord, 1995; Šilhán, 2020), floods (Ballesteros et al, 2017a, 2017b; Šilhán, 2012), and even erosion. The principle of dendrogeomorphic reconstruction of erosion is based on the dating of the moment of tree root exposure.…”
