Densities, Viscosities, Refractive Indexes, and Surface Tensions for Mixtures of Ethanol, Benzyl Acetate, and Benzyl Alcohol

Abstract: Densities, viscosities, refractive indexes, and surface tensions of the ternary system (ethanol + benzyl acetate + benzyl alcohol) at T = 303.15 K and its constituent binary systems (ethanol + benzyl acetate, ethanol + benzyl alcohol, and benzyl acetate + benzyl alcohol) at T = (293.15, 303.15, 313.15, and 323.15) K were measured under atmospheric pressure. Densities were determined using a vibrating-tube densimeter. Viscosities were measured with an automatic microviscometer based on the rolling-ball principl… Show more

“…Its density was f = 950 ± 10 kg ⋅ m −3 . (Details of these measurements are provided in Rousseau (2019)-Annex D.) These values were close to those obtained by Chen et al (2012). According to these authors, surface tension was about f = 31 ± 1 mN ⋅ m −1 , which is a factor of 2 lower than that of water.…”

“…An Atago RX 5000 refractometer was therefore used to measure samples of the interstitial fluid. The initial mixture was based on the measurement tables of Chen, Lin & Tu (2012). Further adjustments to obtain the desired value of were done by adding small quantities of either ethanol or benzyl alcohol.…”

“…It was shown in Figure 2 that the excess molar volumes of benzyl alcohol with ethanol, 1-propanol, and 2-propanol are in agreement with the reported data. 5,6,15 The densities of pure liquids and their binary mixtures were measured by using single capillary pycnometer in ref 6. The reported data by Venkatramana et al 17 for benzyl alcohol with 1-propanol and 1-butanol are not good quantitative agreement with Nain et al 6 and this work data.…”
