Depth camera based system for auto-stereoscopic displays

Abstract: Abstract-Stereoscopic displays are becoming very popular since more and more contents are now available. As an extension, auto-stereoscopic screens allow several users to watch stereoscopic images without wearing any glasses. For the moment, synthetized content are the easiest solutions to provide, in realtime, all the multiple input images required by such kind of technology. However, live videos are a very important issue in some fields like augmented reality applications, but remain difficult to be applied … Show more

“…In previous works [16,17], we proposed an interactive augmented application using a depth camera coupled with a color camera. From the depth information, we performed a reconstruction of the scene and linked it with a physic engine.…”

“…An alternative approach is using a dedicated depth sensing camera, traditionally these have often been expensive and of low resolution, however with advances in the area of Structured Light (SL) [2,[92][93][94], Single Depth Single Colour (SD-SC) [95,96], Multiple Depth Multiple Colour (MD-MC) systems [97][98][99], and increasing commoditization they have broken out of their niche and mass-market alternatives, such as the Microsoft Xbox Kinect, are available. These provide cheap, accurate depth sensing with a higher resolution and the additional benefit of providing both the depth image and a matching image source, this pairing is often referred to as a Red, Green, Blue and Depth (RGB-D) image.…”
