“…Dermatoglyphie features -in KSP there is increase in the percentage of convexity of the hand fingers, coupled with a drop in the percentage of loops and whorls, increased frequency of arches, low TRC with a range of 118.5 -135.2 vs 152.27 in control, low values for the a-b distance and ridge counts, increase ridge breadth (Penrose and Loesch, 1967), and a very high percentage of patterns in hypotenar area, range 26.9 -49.1 vs 23.7 in control (Holt, 1963(Holt, , 1968Holt and Lindsten, 1964;Penrose, 1967a;Schaumann and Alter, 1976;Yoshida, 1977, 1978;Saldana-Garcia, 1977, 1979Shiono et al, 1977;Komatz et al, 1979;Reed, 1981;Jantz and Hunt, 1986). Control healthy male group, see Kobyliansky et al, 2004. The findings from several such investigations, not including our own, are arranged in tabular form below (Table A).…”

“…In another report from Japan, more whorls and fewer ulnar loops were present in Japanese compared to Caucasian patients. Shiono et al (1977) suggested that an increase in the number of X or Y chromosomes decreased the a‐b ridge count in a similar way to the decrease in total finger ridge count. Frequency of each fingerprint type significantly differs depending on ethnicity, finger and gender.…”

“…There are many reports on the relationship between dermatoglyphics and sex chromosome anomalies, including Klinefelter's and Turner's syndromes (Holt and Lindesten 1964; Cushman and Soltan 1969; Shiono et al 1977; Pétremand‐Hyvärinen 1978). Klinefelter's syndrome (KS) is the most common chromosomal abnormality in humans.…”

“…In the palmar patterns of this syndrome, no characteristic findings, such as the increased hypothenar patterns associated with an ulnar triradius seen in the XXYY type (Shiono et al,, 1977), have been noted (Schaumann and Alter, 1976). On the other hand, the frequencies of several palmar pattern elements in the XXY type were reported to be different from those of normal male and female subjects (Holt, 1968;Cushman and Soltan, 1969;Penrose and Loesch, 1970).…”
