Dermoscopic Findings of Photo-Ageing in Egyptian Patients

Abstract: Dermoscopy is a noninvasive optical surface microscopy useful for diagnosis of photoageing. Dermoscopic findings of photoageing include telangiectasia, vascular changes, pigmentation changes, seborrheic keratosis, actinic keratosis, periorbital comedones and cysts and superficialdeep-criss-cross wrinkles creating a dermoscopic photoageing scale (DPAS). Thirty two patients were examined and DPAS was recorded. It was proved that dermoscopy is a good objective analytical method for cutaneous photoageing.

“…Otherwise, most of our participants had skin phototype III, IV, and V. In our study, none of the participants were diagnosed as having actinic keratosis that could be attributed to the skin phototype of our participants where these lesions are not common. Magdy and Sadek (2015) reported the most prevalent findings in facial photoaging was solar lentigo and the least was the actinic keratosis. They studied a smaller scale of subjects with skin types III and IV that may result in selected inconsistency with our results.…”

“…Magdy and Sadek (2015) stated that individuals with Glogau IV achieved the highest DPAS score and yellowish discoloration. Our study along with Magdy and Sadek (2015) study proved that the dermoscopic features can parallel the increase in the clinical Glogau's scale and consequently can be a more quantitative substitution.…”

“…Magdy and Sadek state that individuals with Glogau IV had the highest DPAS scores and yellowish discoloration. 24 This present study is in line with the study of Magdy and Sadek, which proves that the dermoscopy picture increases with the Glogau scale and can be used as a substitute quantitative score.…”
