Descarte de peixes na pesca comercial em Tefé, médio Solimões, Amazônia Central

Abstract: ABSTRACT. Discarded catches from commercial fisheries in the middle Solimões river, Central Amazon region. Discards are common in commercial fishery, and are evaluated in order to support fisheries management in the region. Fish discards in the middle Solimões River were described through daily monitoring of fishing activities by the commercial fleet of the town of Tefé. By making use of analyses of correlation and covariance, determinant factors for discards in three different types of fisheries were evaluate… Show more

“…In the Amazon at the start of the flooding, the level of the river is practically stable. The aquatic environments on the floodplain predominate where a substantial part of the ichthyofauna is dispersed in search of food [ 10 , 19 , 33 – 34 , 66 – 70 ]. During this period, fishing is more difficult and the catchability of target species is reduced because of the considerable dispersion of the individuals, arising from the increase of habitats and hidden areas.…”

“…With the selection of attributes–fishing boat and gill net–the series were reduced to 19,484 records for the river environment and 37,624 records for the floodplain lakes, only considering here the fisheries in the Lower Amazon. This selection is justified since it is known that gill net is the main fishing method in the Lower Amazon, and the fishing boats (boats with their own crew for catching fish) are the most representative units of this artisanal fleet, accounting for over 80% of all the fisheries production in the region [ 33 ]. A criteria for reducing the number of species studied here from all species caught in the Lower Amazon region included the use of a multivariate analysis (discussed later on this text).…”

“…To predict Age1, MFCL was effectively projecting back from Age2 with an assumption that 75% of the total mortality was a constant natural mortality rate that, in common with most fisheries, cannot be independently estimated. Also, the interpretation of fishing effort for Age1 using the catch equations is questionable due to discarding of P. nigricans in the Age1 size range due to lower market value, for which evidence in the Amazon exists [ 35 ].…”
