Description of fabric thickness and roughness on the basis of fabric structure parameters

Abstract: This paper focuses on the evaluation of thread interlacing and its influence on some of the end-use properties of woven fabric, especially its influence fabric thickness and roughness. Weaves and their interlacing structural models, different thread positions in the fabric, and thread compression in thread interlacing are important not only for final design but for final fabric properties. From the weave viewpoint, it is necessary to distinguish the specific interlacing in the longitudinal … Show more

“…At pressure T o , Fabrics A-3 and B-3 are the thickest, which might be attributed to the fabric structure, that is, floats in the diamond weave structure. Similar results can be observed when the fabrics are subjected to high pressure at T m. This affirms the findings of Sirkova 25 that the thickness of the fabric is dependent on the weave structure along with long floats and the yarn parameters.…”

“…The average value was calculated after measuring each sample five times in different positions. 14 The areal density of the fabric samples, also expressed in grams per square meter, was measured following the ISO 3801 standard. 15 This included measuring the length, width, and weight of the fabric samples.…”

“…44 The thickness is defined as the vertical distance between the front and back of the fabric under a given pressure. 45 The fabric thickness meter with a presser foot diameter of 50 mm was measured in this paper, and the pressure applied to the fabric was 1.0 kPa. The area density of the fabric samples was determined using ISO 3801 standards, which included the length, width, and weight of the fabric samples.…”
