Design and Analysis of Magnetic Coils for Optimizing the Coupling Coefficient in an Electric Vehicle Wireless Power Transfer System

Abstract: Although the wireless power transfer (WPT) system for electric vehicles (EVs) provides numerous advantages, there is still a low coupling coefficient and the misalignment between the primary coil and the secondary coil needs to be solved. In this paper, the transmission efficiency and transmitted power were calculated based on Series-Series (SS) compensation topology. The coupling coefficient is related to the coil parameters and misalignments. A simulation study was carried out to explore the variation in the… Show more

“…Experimentally, the coupling coefficients of the Rec-Rec and Circ-Circ structures were very close and unlike the results of bibliographic studies (which did not take the same coil dimensions) [14,21,22], and the rectangular coupler coupling coefficient was better than the DD.…”

“…Different comparative studies [17][18][19][20] between these four different shapes (rectangular, circular, DD, and BP) of coils have been carried out in the past. However, most of them take different geometric dimensions for each structure [14,21,22].…”

“…Several books [7,8] present general guidelines for the design of the coils. In [9,10], a simulation study was carried out to explore the variation in the coupling coefficient for different coil configurations, but without considering the influence of the ferrite under different air gaps and coil misalignments. In [11], a comparison of different coupler topologies based on several evaluation criteria was performed.…”

“…The power supply technology used for various electronics is important, and the conventional power supply technology is provided by using cables, which can be hazardous, inconvenient, or impossible [1,2]. The transformation of charging technology from using traditional cables to wireless power transfer (WPT) is suitable for the booming development of portable devices, consumer electronics, robots, and other fields [3][4][5].…”
