Design and analysis of seven-core photonic crystal fiber for high-power visible supercontinuum generation

Abstract: Abstract. We design a seven-core photonic crystal fiber with specifically designed dispersion and group velocity profile which is optimized for high-power visible supercontinuum (SC) generation pumped by ∼1-μm pulsed lasers. The fiber has both a large air-filling fraction and a large effective mode field area. Additionally, the in-phase supermode of this fiber exhibits an even field distribution after mode modification. The simulation results suggest that it has a great potential to generate a high-power SC ex… Show more

“…The development of highly nonlinear photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) has greatly improved the interplay of multiple nonlinear effects for broadband SC generation [7,8] . By adjusting the geometrical parameters of a PCF, primarily including the core diameter, the air-hole diameter and the hole pitch, the dispersion properties, especially the zerodispersion wavelength (ZDW), can be designed to meet the phase-matching requirements, facilitating the realization of a broad SC spectrum [9][10][11][12][13][14][15] . The UV to near-IR region is important in biomedical imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging fields [16,17] .…”
