Design and implementation of a customable automatic vehicle location system in ambulances and emergency vehicle systems

Abstract: Background:Automatic vehicle location (AVL) refers to a system that calculates the geographical location of any vehicle, i.e., latitude and longitude. Vehicle location information about one or more moving vehicles can be stored in the internal memory and accessed when vehicles are available (offline tracking). It is also possible to get location information on a real-time basis (online tracking). The real-time tracking systems designed to date may incorporate three devices: global positioning system (GPS), geo… Show more

“…The connectivity options available include 3G, 4G, 5G, and Wi-Fi, and these have all helped the growth of LBNS [22]. Navigation applications have become popular being able to be installed in mobile phones to provide direction, location of point of interest and user position [23], GNSS/GPS systems have provided autonomous geo-spatial position of a handheld device with global coverage where they use satellites to deliver geo-spatial position [24]. They allow small electronic receivers to determine their location (longitude, latitude, and altitude/elevation) to high precision (within a few meters) using time signals transmitted along a line of sight by radio from satellites.…”
