Design and Optimization of Powertrain System for Prototype Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle

Abstract: This paper reports the analysis of an automatic intelligent controller for driving a prototype fuel cell electric vehicle over different obstacles while maintaining all systems at maximum efficiency during completion of a race within a specified time. The objective is to reduce driving errors, such as excessive driving, or over revving the throttle while controlling the energy usage at the minimum point and improving driving skills for the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2014 race. The vehicle is equipped with a proto… Show more

“…In recent years, there are many research works in designing and testing the energy-efficient racer. [14][15][16][17][18][19][20] Guillaume et al 13 proposed a typical methodology to design a high-efficiency FC powertrain. They focused on design and testing of the powertrain.…”

“…Based on these conditions, a new vehicle technology to reduce air pollution and fuel consumption is required. Many researchers and vehicle companies have developed some new vehicle technologies to decrease fuel consumption and air pollution, such as the electric vehicle [6][7][8][9][10] and hybrid electric vehicle [11][12][13]. However, Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) [14][15][16][17][18] is the most suitable vehicle technology for the future as compared to electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle [19,20].…”

“…Many researchers have used alternative fuels such as bioethanol, alcohol or hydrogen [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13], but these alternative fuels still have some problems such as unsustainability and difficulties with their storage systems [14,15]. Electric vehicles (EV) [16,17] and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) [18,19]have the most potential as new technologies to address these issues [20][21][22][23][24]. People at the moment are giving great attention to EV and HEV due to the rising shortage of global oil supply and skyrocketing oil prices [25].…”
