Design and Performance Testing of a Novel Three-Dimensional Elliptical Vibration Turning Device

Abstract: A novel three-dimensional (3D) elliptical vibration turning device which is on the basis of the leaf-spring-flexure-hinges-based (LSFH-based) double parallel four-bar linkages (DPFLMs) has been proposed. In order to evaluate the performance of the developed 3D elliptical vibration cutting generator (EVCG), the off-line tests were carried out to investigate the stroke, dynamic performance, resolution, tracking accuracy and hysteresis along the three vibration axes. Experimental results indicate that the maximum… Show more

“…This may affect the frequency mainly along one side, while the other sides should not be obvious. Manufacturing errors and imperfect contacts between PZTs and the input ends could also affect the frequencies obtained by tests [31].…”

“…They discovered that UVAT altered both the surface profile of the substrate and the path taken by the tool tip. Traditional 3D ultrasonic vibration-assisted machining systems often require two or more ultrasonic actuators [61,62], which are complex and lead to a slow response. Wei et al [63] developed a new ultrasonic vibration actuator through simulation and experimental design and prepared a new 3D UVAT system with a single ultrasonic actuator (figure 5).…”

“…The superposition of the four high-frequency vibration signals will cause the tool nose to generate a high-frequency elliptical orbit. As for the development of nonresonant 3D elliptical vibration-assisted turning apparatus, some scholars presented the structure based on flexure hinge driven by piezoelectric stacks [17][18]. In these devices, the flexure hinges were utilized to increase the output displacement of turning tool.…”
