Design and study of a compact planar ultra-wideband antenna

Abstract: In this paper, a novel, small, and compact planar antenna for ultra-wideband (UWB) applications is proposed. The antenna is an extension of microstrip slot antenna technology. To achieve ultra-wideband characteristics, a tapered microstrip fork-shaped stub has been employed. A symmetric polygon wide slot has been placed on the antenna ground. The design was investigated numerically to obtain proper dimensions for the antenna and a prototype was constructed. The return loss, pattern and gain of the prototype an… Show more

“…The UWB antenna is the important component in electronic information warfare and is used in time domain application such as impulse radar [1] etc., the antenna is UWB application behave like a band pass filter and modified shape of spectral pulse. The release of 3.1 -10.6 GHz spectrum [2] for commercial UWB Technology application by the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) on February 14, 2002 makes the design and implementation of UWB system as highly competitive topic in research and industrial communities of telecommunication field [3] The antenna used in indoor UWB communication has a ratio bandwidth of 3.4:1 while the antenna called super wideband (SWB) antenna have the ratio not less than 10:1. The former operates like pulse figurations filter [4] which need the antenna to radiate pulses without distortion.…”
