Design, Model & Planning of Prosumer Microgrid for MNS UET Multan Campus

Abstract: The goal of this study is to provide a model and conceptual design for a prosumer campus microgrid that will help the university campus economically. The proposed model is based on solar PV installation at department rooftop for the campus of Muhammad Nawaz Sharif University of Engineering and Technology's in Multan, Pakistan. This study indicates that a 3,196-kW grid-connected solar photovoltaic system may generate enough electrical power to meet consumption, reducing grid reliance and minimizing energy from … Show more

“…Apart from this, the demand for solar PV is rising like other technologies at a rate of 30% to 40% due to the reduced cost of solar modules. Solar photovoltaics has become the major contributor to the supply of energy to the world [30][31][32][33].…”

“…S c denotes the specific cost and P rated denotes the rated power [38]. The frequent battery charging efficiency, charging power of the battery, discharging efficiency, and battery discharging powers are characterized by η (chrg) , p chrg (t) , η ( dchrg ) , and p dchrg (t) , respectively [39], while C cost denotes the specific cost of energy storage indicated in Equation (5). In Equation ( 6), S BESS denotes the size of the battery, C ESS m denotes the maintenance cost of the ESS, and f om denotes the maintenance factor.…”

“…Due to the variable nature of their loads, university campuses are one of the large-load microgrid users that come under the category of mixed-load consumers. Because of the availability of onsite power generation, these buildings can export excess electricity to the power grid as a prosumer [5]. Similarly, when local DGs and energy storages are inadequate in fulfilling the overall load demand, they can import electricity from the utility grid [6].…”

“…Microgrids have different types of systems, such as flexible load, DGs, and energy storage systems (ESS). The generic microgrid model is described as the model as illustrated in Figure 1 that contains Solar PV, Diesel generator, grid, and energy storage company [ 4 ]. It also contains controllers that efficiently deal with the system by controlling the load to increase the solar output.…”
