Design of a Blockchain-Based e-Portfolio Evaluation System to Assess the Education and Teaching Process

Abstract: The e-Portfolio evaluation can truthfully assess the education and teaching process. This technique boasts several advantages: diverse evaluation sub-jects, emphasis on process evaluation, support to individualized develop-ment, and integration between teaching and evaluation. This paper applies blockchain to e-Portfolio evaluation, aiming to solve the thorny issues in tra-ditional e-Portfolio evaluation: privacy protection, data sharing, and infor-mation tracing. Firstly, the functional demand of blockchain-b… Show more

“…Blockchain uses consensus-based cryptography to protect the anonymity of data, and data can only be accessed by an individual user's private key, maximizing the security and privacy of evaluation data. Although various prototype systems for grade authentication and credit confirmation have been developed to date [64,65], they have not been widely implemented.…”

“…Widayanti et al [98] showed that the assessment process using the blockchain technology as the underlying structure disrupts the traditional educational model and the results of automated assessment are more convincing. Zheng [99] created a learning assessment system that evaluates students in an anonymous way and the system is able to obtain the results quickly, ensuring that the results are objective and fair. Zhao et al [100] proposed a blockchain technology-based student competency evaluation system that focuses on monitoring students' educational activities, analyzing learning data, and developing unifed evaluation criteria through a PoA consensus protocol to objectively and comprehensively evaluate students' personal skills demonstrated in educational activities and give reference to students' future job search directions.…”

“…However, there still exist several technical challenges that must be overcome to successfully implement these schemes. A design of a blockchain-based e-portfolio evaluation system that assesses the education and teaching processes is proposed in [ 33 ]. Other studies [ 34 , 35 , 36 ] presented practical implementations of blockchain-enabled solutions for managing life-long learning achievement records beyond transcripts and certificates.…”
