Design of a Hybrid (Wired/Wireless) Acquisition Data System for Monitoring of Cultural Heritage Physical Parameters in Smart Cities

Abstract: Preventive conservation represents a working method and combination of techniques which helps in determining and controlling the deterioration process of cultural heritage in order to take the necessary actions before it occurs. It is acknowledged as important, both in terms of preserving and also reducing the cost of future conservation measures. Therefore, long-term monitoring of physical parameters influencing cultural heritage is necessary. In the context of Smart Cities, monitoring of cultural heritage is… Show more

“…Continuously recording T and RH values within and outside the frame is thus fundamental to assess the buffering performances of the microclimate frames over time [28]. After the restoration, a T and RH monitoring system developed at the Department of Applied Physics of the UPV (Polytechnic University of Valencia) [32] was installed. The thermo-hygrometers were positioned both inside and outside the frames and set to sample the temperature and relative humidity values with the sampling frequency of one minute.…”

“…Environmental agents are factors such as temperature, humidity, ultraviolet, and chemical agents (SO 2 , O 3 , NO, etc.) [10]. Thus, to preserve heritage, a smart system must include several kinds of sensors and video cameras to implement realtime monitoring and recording of historical data [11].…”

“…In fact, an analysis of statistical data can be performed to obtain valuable information for preventive conservation [17]. Preventive conservation consists of a working method and a 2 Journal of Sensors combination of techniques that help to determine and control the deterioration process of cultural heritage in order to take the necessary actions before it occurs [18].…”
