Design of a Novel Linear Shaped Charge and Factors Influencing its Penetration Performance

Abstract: In this paper, a novel linear shaped charge (LSC), called a bi-apex-angle linear shaped charge (BLSC), has been designed to investigate the improvement of penetration performance. Compared with a traditional single-apex-angle LSC, a BLSC, which consists of a small-apex-angle liner and a large-apex-angle liner, has been investigated by depth-of-penetration (DOP) test. The results show that the penetration depth of BLSC is 29.72% better than that of an ordinary LSC. An Eulerian method is applied to simulate the … Show more

“…At this time, the jet was almost separated from the surrounding material and moved independently. These results are consistent with the experimental and numerical results of previous studies [ 13 , 33 , 34 ], indicating that the developed hydrocode can successfully simulate the linear-shaped charge.…”

“…In literature [23,24], a special evolvable warhead structure was proposed. Bohanek and Cheng et al [25,26] also conducted related studies on linear explosively formed projectile (LEFP).…”

“…In the literature, there have been various studies which focus on formation and penetration performances of symmetrical jets with undamaged warheads and compare experimental and numerical results (Wang et al , 2015; Cheng et al , 2018; Huanguo et al , 2019; Han et al , 2021). In these studies, the effects of liner shapes and liner materials on penetration performances were investigated.…”
