Design of Controllable-structured Polymeric Nanocapsules via SI-ATRP from Colloidal Templates

Abstract: Combination of the advantages of the surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) and template-based techniques, the SI-ATRP from colloidal templates approach could be applied to fabricate the controllable-structured polymeric nanocapsules. The different crosslinking techniques, such as chemical crosslinking, ultraviolet (UV)-induced photo-crosslinking, and one-pot surface-initiated atom transfer radical crosslinking copolymerization (SI-ATRCP), for the controllable-structured crosslinked p… Show more

“…Also, some polymers such as poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) , and poly(methacrylic acid) (PMAA) , are known as pH-sensitive polymers. Among different structures, hollow nanospheres have attracted a great deal of attention. In such structures, a single-layer shell gives a single stimulus, including changes in temperature or pH, while a dual-stimulus response can be obtained by a two-layer shell with block copolymerization of two kinds of functional monomers. Etching a silica core from silica/cross-linked-polymeric-shell nanoparticles can be an effective method for synthesizing hollow nanospheres if a stimulus-responsive polymer is cross-linked around nanometric silica particles.…”

“…At present, lots of different mature methods (including physical and chemical methods) have been successfully discovered and developed to fabricate size-and shape-persistent functional polymeric nanocapsules [7], such as self-assembly [8.9], template-directed synthesis [10,11], miniemulsion polymerization [12], and others.…”
