Design of leaky coaxial cables with periodic slots

Abstract: [1] Based on the analysis of spatial harmonics of periodically slotted structures, the formulas for determining the slot period of the leaky coaxial cables according to the desired frequency band are given. Methods of suppressing the higher-order harmonics for extending the frequency bandwidth are discussed. Diagrams for determining slot sizes and shapes according to the desired coupling loss are given. “…The electrical characteristics of LCX mainly include characteristic impedance, working frequency, attenuation constant, and coupling loss. 12 The attenuation constant indicates the electromagnetic energy which lost in the LCX during the transmission, and it is closely related to the dielectric constant of the insulation material. Defined as A5a c 1a d 1a r , attenuation constant A includes conductor attenuation a c , isolation material attenuation a d and radiation attenuation a r , where a r is caused by the leaky radiation through the slotted outer conductor.…”

“…However, the IDS based on LCX sensor has completely different characteristics. The apertures on the LCX are similar to the array antennas, 8,9 which builds a wide-belt flexible detection area instead of the area of directional beam. The closer the distance between the aperture and the intruder, the more obvious reflection effect the aperture provides.…”
