Design of Powering Wireless Medical Sensor Based on Spiral-Spider Coils

Abstract: Biomedical sensors help patients monitor their health conditions and receive assistance anywhere and at any time. However, the limited battery capacity of medical devices limits their functionality. One advantageous method to tackle this limited-capacity issue is to employ the wireless power transfer (WPT) technique. In this paper, a WPT technique using a magnetic resonance coupling (MRC-WPT)-based wireless heart rate (WHR) monitoring system—which continuously records the heart rate of patients—has been design… Show more

“…Likewise, the energy source can be several centimeters from the surface of the skin, facilitating, in particular, the installation of ventricular assistance devices, cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators, the restoration of the motor functions of organs affected as a result of an accident or an illness, stimulation of the muscles, and alleviation of the effects of certain types of illness (Visual prostheses used to restore vision loss, diagnosis of the gastrointestinal tract, etc.) [101], [102]. The use of cardiac assist Wireless power transmission devices, for example, to bypass ventricular dysfunctions is beneficial.…”

“…For BMIs, WPT provides a safe, efficient, and comfortable charging approach that overcomes the complication of power capacity and decreases the cost and complications associated with surgical battery replacement. Several BMSs and BMIs are highly dependent on WPT, including left ventricular assist FIGURE 1 Classification of wireless power transfer technology devices (LVADs) [10], capsule endoscopes [11], heart rate sensors [12], deep brain stimulators (DBSs) [13], and many other biomedical applications. A century ago, Nicola Tesla performed experiments to transfer power wirelessly.…”
