Design with nature and eco-city design

Abstract: Designing with Nature is an approach linking design and ecology, which focuses on living with nature, caring for nature, and aiming for a sustainable society. China has made eco-city development, eco-restoration, and eco-civilization its legislative priority and its national strategy, investing a US$618 billion in a 5-year period from 2011-2015 that could reach as high as US$1,124 billion dollars in the period of 2016-2020. "Designing with nature" also means that we must, as we are dealing with resources, cons… Show more

“…However, there is a trend for an interdisciplinary design that seeks not only inspiration in free aesthetic forms but also those biological inspirations that minimize the use of natural resources and the carbon footprint, which makes it sustainable architecture that responds to the change of an industrial era to the ecological era of humanity (Dixit and Stefańska, 2023). The adaptability of nature to different environmental changes has been well reported in the literature (Jamei and Vrcelj, 2021), and as mentioned in (Wu et al, 2020), one of the main purposes of using bio-inspired designs or designing with nature is to restore the patterns of the environment, and landscape that, in turn, converts the built environment into efficient cities with low carbon production and resilient. Such is the case of China, which has implemented sustainable ecological development in cities in the last 50 years; they are ecological cities that restore the ecosystem and integrate into it, focusing on five elements: energy, food, transport, waste, and water.…”

“…The concept of “eco-building” emerged internationally in the 1960s, but it was not until 1992 that the basic concept of “green building” was formally introduced for the first time. Later, the United Nations Environment Agency established the concept of “sustainable development” to show the way forward for the development of the construction industry (Wu et al. , 2020).…”

“…Respect for the laws of nature is a general assumption accompanying the emergence of ecological cities [52]. This law presupposes that man cannot make excessive use of nature and should strive for ecological balance in his actions.…”
