Designing Humanoid Robots with Novel Roles and Social Abilities

Abstract: This mini-review describes aspects of human-robot interaction to be taken into account when designing humanoid robots with novel roles and social abilities. The review accentuates the psychological complexity that is necessary to be made inherent in the design of humanoid robotic technology. Some recent studies of robot acceptance are summarized leading to the proposal for more complex synthetic sensors being needed in novel humanoid robots. The perspective is designing based on modeling attitude (the social le… Show more

“…And, when the human teacher is assisted by a humanoid robot, education will be more efficient than today, provided the robot’s activities resemble the roles and functions of the educator, personally conveying, in a social way, new knowledge to the learner, according to the learner’s individual style and cognitive needs (e.g. Dimitrova and Wagatsuma, 2015 ; Dimitrova et al, 2020 ). Detecting and diagnosing mental states of the learners, however, is a challenge to the overall approach yet a realistic aim (e.g., Schartner et al, 2015 ).…”

“…Социалната компетентност възниква когато може са се направи коректна прогноза за "поведение в отговор на нагласа" -приятелска, разбираща, емпатична, и пр. Роботът трябва да може коректно да прецени нагласата на детето от наблюдение на неговите действия и същевременно да "възпроизвежда" позитивни, емпатични нагласи [21].…”
