Designing Supply Networks in Automobile and Electronics Manufacturing Industries: A Multiplex Analysis

Abstract: This study investigates the process of how the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in automobile and consumer electronics industries design their supply networks. In contrast to the sociological viewpoint, which regards the emergence of networks as a social and psychological phenomenon occurring among non-predetermined individuals, this paper attempts to provide a strategic supply network perspective that views the supply network as a strategic choice made by an OEM. Anchored in the multiplex investigation… Show more

“…According to Moyaux et al (2006) supply chain system can be modeled as a network of agents. Kim and Narasimhan (2019) set up several hypotheses around network evolution driven by strategic alliances between OEMs and vendors. An other study proposed an integrative framework around three central themes: system architecture, system behavior, and system policy control for the network evolution (Bellamy and Basole, 2013).…”

“…Kim and Narasimhan [16] focused on the supply network design process of original equipment manufacturers in auto and consumer electronics industries. Wang et al [17] proposed a multi-criterial decision-making model for supplier selection in the oil and gas industry.…”

“…The body shop of the bus manufacturer is a rigid flow shop with multiple production lines, which can be simplified into one production stage. The production of the paint shop is simplified to three stages [27]. The simulation data for scheduling include four stages, namely Oper 1 , Oper 2 , Oper 3 , Oper 4 , whose parallel machine M j is {3, 2, 3, 2}.…”
