Detecting population structure and recent demographic history in endangered livestock breeds: the case of the Italian autochthonous donkeys

Abstract: Since its domestication, about 5000 years ago, the donkey (Equus asinus) has been extensively used as a work or draft animal in agricultural activities and for the transportation of people and goods.
