Determination and Correlation of Liquid–Liquid Equilibrium Data for the Ternary Dichloromethane + Water + N,N-Dimethylacetamide System

Abstract: The liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data for the ternary system dichloromethane +water + N,N-dimethylacetamide were determined at (298.15 and 308.15) K and atmospheric pressure. The solubility data were obtained by using the cloud point titration method. The ternary phase diagrams could be drawn from the data of the tie-lines. The experimental data were correlated by using the nonrandom two-liquid (NRTL) model. The binary interaction parameters of the ternary system were regressed by nonlinear least-squares me… Show more

“…As a basic work, we have already determined the LLE data for the ternary system DCM + water + DMAC, the LLE data obtained are shown in Table 2 [5]. In order to investigate the salt effect on this system, we have determined the LLE data for the DCM + water + DMAC + NaCl system with different content of NaCl at 298.15 K and 308.15 K, respectively.…”

“…N,N -Dimethylacetamide (DMAC) is an important organic solvent for industrial applications. DMAC has been extensively used in the textile industry for the production of polyacrylate synthetic fibers as well as the production of polyimide film. , DMAC can also be utilized in the production of medical intermediates in the pharmaceutical industry. , Owing to the wide use of DMAC in industry, a large amount of wastewater with different concentrations of DMAC is produced. Direct discharge of DMAC wastewater causes environment pollution and loss of DMAC .…”

“…The reliable liquid–liquid equilibrium (LLE) data reflect the distribution of DMAC between the solvent phase and the aqueous phase in the extraction process, provide a good understanding of phase behavior and the thermodynamic properties of ternary systems, and thus are important thermodynamic properties for the design and evaluate industrial units for DMAC extraction processes. , However, only a few publications have reported the LLE data for the extraction of DMAC from aqueous solution until now; , searching for new and more suitable solvents for the recovery of DMAC is still the principal consideration. Therefore, in this work, chloroform, methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), isopropyl acetate, and isopropyl ether were chosen as new solvents for DMAC extraction from DMAC aqueous solution; and the LLE and phase behavior involved in extracting DMAC from an aqueous solution were investigated adequately.…”

“…N,N-Dimethylacetamide (DMAC) is a colorless and transparent nonproton solvent with high polarity. 14 It has an applicability over a wide temperature range owing to its high boiling point (>160 C). It has been widely used in industries because of its numerous excellent properties, such as good solubility, high hydrothermal stability, difficult hydrolysis, and so on.…”

Pioneer works reported DMF solvent as an excellent polar solvent for various classes of compounds, the dissolution being favored by interactions of the substrate with DMF. [15][16][17] Mokhtar et al 6 found that the utilization of DMF for the desulfurization of DBT achieved a good result.…”
