“…Environmental quality is a term associated with several aspects of “comfort,” both for people and for biological systems, and depends primarily on the availability of water, air quality, and temperature (Buchholz et al 2014 ; Harlan et al 2014 ; Karaca 2012 ). Water that falls as rain becomes an important regulator of temperature and, in turn, is related to extreme events, such as drought and dust storms (Al-Kaisi et al 2012 ; Zhang et al 2012 ).…”

“…The impact analysis of future climatic variability in terms of rainfall and temperature began with the creation of a projected layer (shp) according to the locations ( x , y ) for each WS. The data were interpolated for all of the variables included in the study (zi) using an inverse distance-weighted (IDW) method in ArcMap 10.1® (ESRI, Redlands, CA, USA); the same method has been used in similar studies (Karaca 2012 ; López-Santos et al 2013 ). The first product of this process was the creation of a raster layer adjusted to the maximum and minimum extreme values.…”

“…The critical elements are the availability of fresh water, air quality and temperature (Karaca, 2012;Kuo-Jen et al, 2012). The water in the form of rain becomes important in regulating temperature and its relationship with extreme events, such as drought and dust storms, among others (Sun et al, 2003;Batjargal et al, 2006;Zhang et al, 2012).…”

“…Turkey followed the European Directive to define AQZs for eight different regional areas within its 81 provinces (CYGM, 2010). The process used multiple methods and tools, including statistical analysis of monitoring station historical data, use of geodatabases and Geographic Information System (GIS) evaluations, air dispersion and local sources, and meteorological effects (Karaca, 2012). Furthermore, the Turkish evaluation only employed average daily values of pollutants, instead of hourly averages, with daily values discarded if more than 30% of hourly data was unavailable.…”
