Determination of alkaloid compounds of Ricinus communis by using gas chromatography- mass spectroscopy (GC-MS)

Abstract: In this study, the alkaloid compounds of Ricinus communis have been evaluated. The chemical compositions of the leaf ethanol extract of R. communis were investigated using gas chromatographymass spectroscopy (GC-MS). GC-MS analysis of R. communis alkaloid leaf ethanol extract revealed the existence of the n-haxadecanoic acid, octadecanoic acid, 1-hexadecanol. 2-Methyl, gibb-3-ene-1. 10decarboxylic acid , 2,4a. 7trihydroxy-1-methyl-8-methylene, 1.4a-lactone. 10-methyl, L-valine, ethyl ester, hexadecamethyl, tet… Show more

“…It grows as a shrub or herbaceous plant with about 0.8 to 2m height (Atik bekkara et al, 2007).This plant likes dry and arid regions, hills and low mountains, calcareous, shale, clay and rocky substrates. The potent antioxidant properties of rosemary extracts have been attributed to its phenolic compounds, mainly rosmarinic acid and diterpenes carnosic acid and carnosol (Sergi and Leonor, 2002;Troncoso et al, 2005;Ameera et al, 2015). Rosemary extract relaxes smooth muscles and has choleretic, hepatoprotective and antitumerogenic activity (Al-Sereiti et al, 1999).…”

“…Natural plants are considered primary source of chemical compounds which have medicinal effect [1]. Among these medicinal plants, Ricinus communis L. (castor plant) which belong to spurge family Euphorbiaceaand genus Ricinus [2]. The plant has wide traditional and medicinal uses for instance castor oil used as purgative, wound and scarf healer, expel worm and parasites from intestine, hair growth, expectorant, tonic, high nitrogen fertilizer, livestock feed, insecticidal, also it is used as laxative and to treat dermatitis, ringworm and wart [3].…”

“…Five-millimeter diameter wells were cut from the agar using a sterile cork-borer, and 25 μl of the samples solutions (Nerium olender, Ricinus communis, Datura stramonium, Linum usitatissimum, Anastatica hierochuntica and Gramineae poaceae) were delivered into the wells. The plates were incubated for 48 h at room temperature (Huda et al, 2015a;Ameera et al, 2015;Imad et al, 2015c). Antimicrobial activity was evaluated by measuring the zone of inhibition against the test microorganisms.…”
