“…It is commonly used in the production of plastics, coatings, and packaging materials due to its ability to absorb UV light, which helps protect products from UVinduced degradation. 10,25 However, the presence of benzophenone in food and packaging materials has raised some concerns regarding its potential health effects. 2 BZP-d10 is a deuterated form of benzophenone, where 10 hydrogen atoms have been replaced with deuterium atoms.…”

“…Benzophenone is a synthetic chemical compound that belongs to the family of aromatic ketones. It is commonly used in the production of plastics, coatings, and packaging materials due to its ability to absorb UV light, which helps protect products from UV‐induced degradation 10,25 . However, the presence of benzophenone in food and packaging materials has raised some concerns regarding its potential health effects 2 .…”

“…However, UV-As with small molecular weights are known to be volatile, migratable to the surrounding media, and incompatible when they are dispersed inside polymeric networks. , These problems reduce the lifetime of polymeric materials and cause toxicity risks to humans and the environment. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has therefore restricted the use of UV-As in packaging polymers depending on whether or not they are in direct contact with foods and on their suitability to food types . 2-Hydroxy-4-octyloxybenzophenone BP-1 (or Uvinul 3008, Chart ) is an interesting example of being allowed only for nonfat food contacts. , Many other types of UV-As such as benzylidene malonates have never been approved for food packaging, despite their UV protection properties.…”
