Determination of ciclopirox olamine in pharmaceutical products by capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection

Abstract: This paper describes the determination of ciclopirox olamine in pharmaceutical formulations using capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. In an alkaline medium, ciclopirox olamine is converted into an anionic species and its detection is possible in capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection without an electroosmotic flow modifier, because it is a low-mobility species. A linear working range from 2.64 to 264 μg/mL in so… Show more

“…The amperometric results obtained exploring FIA and BIA techniques were compared with those from the electrophoretic method 10 as well as those values found by potentiometric titration described in the American Pharmacopoeia 1. The results of the analysis of all samples are summarised in Table 1, where the data obtained for each commercial drug are presented.…”

“…Some methodologies have been developed for the analysis of ciclopirox olamine in topical solutions, creams and raw materials, among them gas chromatography 5, high‐performance liquid chromatography 68 and capillary electrophoresis 9,10. However, because of the labourious and generally time‐consuming procedures required, many of these methods are not appropriate for rapid and simple quality control to support pharmaceutical production processes.…”

“…Aspirin and paracetamol, two of the three worldwide mostly used pain killers, were determined in pharmaceutical powders with a modified C 4 D detector using contactless electromagnetic induction . Other examples of CE‐C 4 D determination of non‐UV‐absorbing species in pharmaceutical preparations cover the analysis of antimycotic drugs , muscle relaxants , antiseptic/antimicrobial preparation , and manitol . Dual opposite end injection, which enables simultaneous CE analysis of cations and anions, was applied to the determination of basic drugs and their counter anions in various pharmaceutical formulations .…”

“…Determination of ciclopirox olamine in pharmaceutical formulation was described by Felix et al (2011). Ciclopirox and olamine can be determined in anionic or cationic form using sodium hydroxide (10 mmol/L) or acetic acid (2.0 mol/L) as BGE, respectively.…”
