“…7 The lack of FA gives rise to gigantocytic anemia, leukopenia, mental health issues, psychosis and other diseases. 8 So far, various methods such as high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), [9][10][11] capillary electrophoresis (CE), 12 surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), 13,14 and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), 7,15 electrochemiluminescence (ECL) and photoelectrochemical (PEC) methods 16,17 have been applied to FA detection. However, majority of these methods are either of time-consuming, laborious, and requiring expensive facilities.…”

“…This is consistent with data from Kariluoto et al [24] which showed that total folate content in different rye varieties ranged from 63 to 78µg/100 g fresh weight. On the other hand, higher folate content in whole rye grain flour were noted by Müller [25] and in a previous study by the authors [23]. This might result from the fact that in an earlier study we purchased rye grains shortly after harvesting and ground them directly prior to extraction.…”

“…Mean recoveries of the standards ranged from 81 to 105 %. The lowest value was noted for 5-HCO-H 4 folate and the highest for folic acid [23] Statistical Analysis…”

“…Many studies suggest that diminished folate status is associated with enhanced carcinogenesis as folic acid with vitamin B 12 participates in the nucleotide synthesis, cell division and gene expression [27]. Periconceptual supplementation of folic acid has been demonstrated to reduce significantly the incidence and reoccurrence of neural tube defects, such as spina bifida of women [28]. In January 1998, the US Food and Drug Administration introduced mandatory fortification of cereal grain products with folic acid at a concentration of 140 mg/100 g [29].…”
