“…A Multiplex PCR-based assay has been recently successfully performed targeting the 16S rRNA gene of eight different pathogens (E. coli, Clostridium perfringens, Campylobacter jejuni, Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus cereus) followed by a species-specific identification by separating PCR products in capillary electrophoresis-based single-strand conformation polymorphism (CE-SSCP) [15]. Multiplex PCR-based assays have also been developed by using sets of primers targeting different regions of foodborne pathogens (from 3 to 6 different pathogens) with subsequent post-PCR analysis [16,[18][19][20]. A further improved multiplex methodology has been developed to overcome amplification disparities due to the use of several primers; this universal primer-multiplex PCR system (UP-M-PCR) has been successfully applied to detect E. coli, L. monocytogenes, and Salmonella spp.…”

“…They could serve as a rapid screening method for pathogen detection and they have the potential to be fully automated. Recent multiplex PCR-based applications are reported in Table 1 [11][12][13][14][15][16]. In PCR-based assays, a nucleic acid target of definite length and sequence is amplified by repetitive cycles of strand denaturation, annealing, and extension of oligonucleotide primers by a thermostable DNA polymerase.…”

“…The genetic algorithm (GA) can solve the optimization problems in different fields (Li, Fang, & Cheng, 2009a, 2009b, 2009cOh, Jung, & Pedrycz, 2009). Kim combined Bayesian and the genetic algorithm to solve problems with large number of genes and limited numbers of experimental data points.…”
