Determination of Moisture Content in Ginger Using PSO Combined with Vis/NIR

Abstract: Vis/NIR spectroscopy was used to measure the moisture content of ginger. 330 samples were separated into two groups, as training and validation. Vis/NIR reflection spectral data from 350 to 1800 nm were collected using ginger within the training and validation sets. PSO was used to establish the PLS model. In comparison to the full spectrum model (contained 1451 variables), the prediction capability was improved after using PSO for PLS models. The number of selected variables and LVs were 300 and 6, respective… Show more

“…Following the principles of selecting a spectral band, many interval wavelength selection methods have been put forward, such as interval PLS (iPLS), synergy iPLS (siPLS), backward iPLS (biPLS), moving window PLS (MWPLS), interval combination optimization (ICO) and so on. Recently, a series of random variable selection methods has been proposed, such as random forest, particle swarm optimization (PSO), grey wolf and the Fisher optimal partitions algorithm . Aiming at screening informative variables and obtaining reliable and interpretable information, variable selection methods are performed to obtain a better prediction accuracy when applied to quantitative analysis.…”

“…Accurate measurement of ginger m.c. is critical in postharvest process such as marketing, processing and storing (Li et al 2011). The fresh ginger, which is harvested 5-7 months after plantation has about 80-93% of m.c., hence is suitable to be used as preserving ginger.…”
