Objective: To determine the extent of bleeding on probing, probing pocket depth and the level of oral hygiene and caries prevalence among pregnant women. Material and Methods: Random samples of pregnant women attending eight public health centers were examined. Their periodontal and caries statuses were examined using the Community Periodontal Index, Simplified Oral Hygiene Index and DMF-T. The good criteria of OHI-S ranged from 0 to 1.2, the fair from 1.3 to 3.0 and the poor from 3.1 to 6.0. Descriptive statistics were used to calculate the absolute and relative frequencies. Results: 84.7% had caries and the DMF-T index score was 4.34 (fair). 73% suffered gingival bleeding, 34% with 4-5 mm pocket depth, 2% with 6 mm or deeper pocket depth, while the majority had good oral hygiene. The prevalence of 4-5 mm probing pocket depth increased between the first and second trimesters (12.1% to 48.5%), before undergoing a slight decrease in the third trimester (39.4%). Gingival bleeding was found to be most prevalent in the third trimester. Pocket depth of 4-5 mm was found to be highest in the second trimester. Pocket depth of 6 mm or more was restricted to the third trimester. Oral hygiene scores increased in tandem with gestational age. Conclusion: The majority had caries, which strongly suggests that the awareness of the pregnant women regarding their oral hygiene remains limited.

ABSTRAKPendahuluan: Kehamilan adalah suatu kondisi yang dapat mempengaruhi perubahan fisiologis, perubahan pola makan, dan perubahan psikologis. Hal ini secara tidak langsung dapat mempengaruhi status kebersihan mulut dan selaput lidah. Sebagian besar wanita hamil ditemukan menderita beberapa penyakit mulut yang diketahui terkait dengan kehamilan. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui hubungan antara oral hygiene dengan coated tongue pada ibu hamil di Puskesmas Garuda Bandung. Metode: Jenis penelitian analitik korelatif dengan pendekatan cross-sectional. Sampel yang memenuhi kriteria adalah sebanyak 69 orang yang diperoleh dengan teknik purposive sampling. Data diperoleh dengan menghitung Oral Hygiene Index Simplified dan Coated Tongue Index, kemudian data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearman menggunakan aplikasi MegaStat. Hasil: Hubungan antara oral hygiene dan coated tongue pada kelompok ibu hamil di Puskesmas Garuda Bandung, mempunyai nilai korelasinya (r s ) sebesar 0,259 menunjukkan Nilai signifikan secara statistik dengan p-value sebesar 0,00158567 (p<0,005). Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara oral hygiene dan coated tongue pada kelompok ibu hamil, yang berarti ketika kebersihan rongga mulut buruk, area selaput putih (coated tongue) pada dorsal lidah semakin besar. These changes affect oral hygiene and coated tongue indirectly. Most pregnant women are found to suffer from some oral diseases that associated with pregnancy. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship of oral hygiene with coated tongue among pregnant women in Puskesmas Garuda Bandung. Methods: This study used correlative analytical with cross sectional approach method. The samples were 69 pregnant women that were obtained by purposive sampling technique. The data was obtained by examining the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified and coated tongue index. The data were analyzed using Spearman Correlation and proceeded by MegaStat application. Result: There was a relationship between oral hygiene status and coated tongue among pregnant women in Puskesmas Garuda Bandung. The correlation value (r s ) was 0,259 which is statistically significant (p-value<0,05). Conclusion: There was a relationship between oral hygiene status and coated tongue among pregnant women in Puskesmas Garuda Bandung, which means when oral hygiene status was bad, the area of the white membrane on the dorsal of the tongue (coated tongue) was wider and vice versa. ResumoApesar dos avanços na Odontologia, muitos cirurgiões dentistas ainda possuem a concepção de que o tratamento odontológico à gestante deve ser postergado e que procedimentos como tomadas radiográficas e anestesias não devem ser realizados. Entretanto sabe-se que nesse período a gestante constitui um grupo de risco uma vez que as mudanças hormonais, físicas e psicológicas podem desencadear um desequilíbrio à saúde bucal da mulher. Dessa forma, o objetivo desta revisão de literatura foi esclarecer e atualizar as recomendações sobre o pré-natal odontológico. A literatura científica mostra que o atendimento odontológico as gestantes é seguro e que apresenta muitos benefícios, tanto para a mãe quanto para o próprio bebê.Palavras-chave: Gestantes, Saúde Bucal, Protocolos Clínicos. AbstractDespite the advances in dentistry, many dentists still have the idea that dental treatment to pregnant women should be delayed and that procedures such as X-ray and anesthesia taken should not be performed. However it is known that during this period the mother is a risk group as the hormonal, physical and psychological changes can trigger an imbalance to the oral health of the woman. Thus, the purpose of this review was to clarify and update the recommendations on dental prenatal care. The scientific literature shows that dental care in pregnant women is safe and has many benefits for both the mother and the baby itself. ResumenA pesar de los avances en la odontología, muchos dentistas todavía tienen la idea de que el tratamiento dental a mujeres embarazadas debe retrasarse y que los procedimientos como los rayos X y la anestesia tomada no deben realizarse.
