“…According to actual data, there were 21924 cattle and 8263 dairy cattle in 2019 in the district, the total milk production was 24483 tons (TUIK, 2021). Aims: This study was carried out in order to determine the current situation and problems in the cattle breeding practices related to shelter characteristics in İspir district of Erzurum province and to provide solutions.Methods and Results: In this research, a face-to-face survey was conducted with 394 business owners selected by a random sampling method among cattle farms in İspir district of Erzurum province. Chi-square and frequency analyzes were performed in the statistical evaluation of the obtained data. It was determined that 97.2% of the surveyed enterprises did not have separate maternity wards in their barns. While the majority of the enterprises housed heifers, young cattle and dry cows together (90.4%), only 9.6% of them housed them separately. It was also determined that the percentages of enterprises providing bedding for cattle in the district were considerably low (12.4%). Grain straw (6.6%) and sawdust (3.3%) were the most popular bedding materials. The enterprises watered their animals through village fountains (90.1%), troughs (70.6%) or carrying the water by the bucket (33.5%). Of all the surveyed enterprises, 54.8% performed general cleaning once a year, while 33.0% twice and 12.2% three times. In 62.9% of the enterprises, manure was used as fertilizer in the fields, and a significant part of the enterprises preferred to utilize manure as fuel (34%). Most of the participants stated that they believed that the cattle would be uncomfortable and that their productivity would decrease at 10-15 °C, which is the optimal temperature for the cattle.Conclusions: The findings of the study demonstrated that there were some improper and deficient practices in the district in terms of breeding practices related to barn characteristics and a large educational campaign on this subject was required for cattle breeders.Significance and Impact of the Study: There are some structural and nonstructural elements in the barn that help the cattle to perform their natural behaviours indirectly increase productivity and ease the work in the enterprises. With this study, the status of cattle enterprises in İspir district in terms of breeding practices related to barn characteristics was determined and some suggestions were made regarding current problems.

Bu çalışma, Muş İli Damızlık Sığır (DSYB) ve Manda (DMYB) Yetiştiricileri Birlikleri'ne üye yetiştiricilerin genel durumları, mevcut hayvansal üretim potansiyelleri ile hayvancılık için gerekli yem temini ve hayvan besleme alışkanlıklarının tespit edilerek, işletmelerin temel sorunlarını saptamak ve çözüm önerilerinde bulunmak amacıyla yapılmıştır. Çalışmada, Van Yüzüncü Yıl Üniversitesi DAP (Doğu Anadolu Projesi) Çiftçi Eğitim Merkezi'nde eğitimlere katılan 250 kursiyerlerle yapılan anketler kullanılmıştır. Araştırma sonunda katılımcıların %85.15'inin 15-50 yaş arasında olduğu, lise ve dengi okul mezunu olanların oranı %21.00, üniversite mezunu olanların oranı ise, %10.00 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Kursiyerlerin %75.71'inin 5-100 da, %16.06'sının 100-250 da, %8.29'unun ise, 250 da ve üzeri tarım arazisi işledikleri tespit edilmiştir. İşletmelerde ortalama olarak 37.8 baş her yaştan sığır ve 9.33 baş mandanın olduğu; kaba ve kesif yemleri dışarıdan temin eden işletmelerin oranının sırasıyla %35.68 ve %52.50 olduğu; hayvanlarını merada otlatanların oranının %95.45; yonca yetiştirenlerin oranının %35.57 ve silaj kullanan işletmelerin oranının da %50.53 olduğu belirlenmiştir. Katılımcıların %61.73'ünün hayvanlara verilecek rasyonları, kendilerinin göz kararı ile hazırladıkları, %17.35'inin ise, rasyon hazırlamayı bilen birinden yardım aldıkları tespit edilmiştir. Yetiştiriciler içinde hayvanların ihtiyaç duydukları tuz ve vitamin-mineral takviyelerini yapanların oranı %87.63 olarak belirlenmiştir. Yetiştiricilerin çoğunluğunun, hayvanlarını günde iki defa yemledikleri (%64.97) ve ahır içinde sabit suluğa sahip işletmelerin oranının ise %29.80 olduğu belirlenmiştir.

Nowadays, milking process in a dairy farm is carried out with the "animal, human and machine" trio closely related to each other. Expected success in milking process is ensured by the animal's accustomedness to the milking machine, the skill and experience of the milkman, and the functional conformity of the milking machine. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of milkman on milk productivity and revenue. As study material, average milk yields obtained from 387 milking of 35 Holstein cows raised in the farm was used. The cows were milked by 6 different milkmen. Linear Mixed Models were used to determine the effect of different milkman and milkman experience on the average milk yields. In addition, the difference in milk yields due to milkman was analyzed in terms of economy. In the study, it was determined that the individual milkman and milkman experience were significant for the average milk yields. Thus, a difference of 2.3 kg was determined between 1 st milkman (the highest average milk yield; 22.6±0.46 kg), and 5 th milkman (the lowest average milk yield; 20.3±0.76 kg), and the difference was statistically significant (P=0.011). This difference in the average milk yield was reflected in 80 liters of additional milk yield per day and 184 ₺ (31.9 $) additional revenue increase achieved in the farm where 35 cows were milked. This difference in income corresponds to the cost of an insured worker. Milkman experience has been split in three categories, the difference between the average milk yield obtained by the least experienced milkman and the average milk yield of the most experienced milkman was found to be statistically significant (P=0.04). This case shows that the experienced milkman income about 156 ₺ (27.03 $) more per day. In conclusion, it was determined that the milkman factor was important for the profitability of the farm in dairy cow. The experienced milkman may earn his own salary with the income increase provided for the farm, and, therefore, economically does not cost extra.
