DETERMINATION OF THE SEX-PHEROMONE COMPONENTS OF CHEIMOPHILA SALICELLA (LEPIDOPTERA: OECOPHORIDAE), A PEST OF BLUEBERRY IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

Abstract: Can. Ent. 116: 1393-1396 (1984) The posterior midgut of a seed-feeding pentatomid, Euschistus euschistoides (Vollenhoven), contains the proteinases cathepsin B and aminopeptidase. Cathepsin B hydrolysis of benzoyl-DL-arginine-2-naphthylamide is activated by thiol chemicals and EDTA. Aminopeptidase hydrolysis of leucine-p-nitroanilide is activated by MgC1, and inhibited by cysteine, glutathione, EDTA, and CaCI,. These results are similar to those obtained for cathepsin B and aminopeptidase from blood-feeding… Show more

“…Early on, sticky yellow trap boards baited with protein hydrolysate or ammonium acetate were found to be attractive to blueberry maggot flies (36,49,65). Sex and aggregation pheromones were identified to monitor several important blueberry pests (38,78). Studies using baited traps have provided insight into flight activity (29,116), dispersal behavior (83,142), and spatial distribution (40,112) of blueberry insect pests.…”

“…Female produced sex pheromones have been isolated and identified for only one Oecophorid species Cheimophila salicella (Hubner, 1796) (GILLESPIE 1984. For another 11 species sex attractants have been reported (ANDO et al 1977(ANDO et al ,1981KNAUF et al, cited by BESTMANN and VOSTROWSKI, 1981;TOTH et al 1979) including 25-1O:Ac (2); 27-1O:Ac (1); 27-12:Ac (3); 27-12:OH (1);…”
