Deuteron stripping on nuclei at intermediate energies

Abstract: A general analytical expression for the double differential cross section of inclusive deuteron stripping reaction on nuclei at intermediate energies of incident particles was obtained in the diffraction approximation. Nucleon-nucleus phases were calculated in the framework of Glauber formalism and making use of the double-folding potential. The exact wave function of deuteron with correct asymptotics at short and long distances between nucleons was used. The calculated angular dependencies of cross sections ar… Show more

“…These quantities are interrelated: thus, for example, for a stripping reaction with polarized deuterons, the vector analyzing power of the reaction A y = 3P [7,11]. The formalism expounded in the present paper was used to describe the polarization observables A y of the reaction 3 He(d, p) 4 He for deuteron energies T = 140 , 200, and 270 MeV [12].…”

“…Within the framework of the double folding model, the eikonal phase shift can be calculated by the method described in [5]. Let the density distribution of nuclear matter in a nucleon (ρ i (r)) and the amplitude of the nucleon-nucleus interaction in the plane of the impact parameter (f (b)) be described by Gaussian functions where R rms is the root-mean-square radius of the nucleus, then the formula for the eikonal phase shift [5] can be generalized [4]:…”

“…TALYS is a Monte Carlo code and it is a nuclear reaction simulation computer code system for the analysis and prediction of nuclear reactions. The basic objective behind its construction is the simulation of nuclear reactions that involve neutrons, photons, protons, deuterons, * corresponding author; e-mail: nurdankarpuz@gmail.com tritons, 3 He, and alpha particles. One of the possible outcome of using a Monte Carlo method for nuclear data evaluation is that a series of correlations can be extracted from the previous results.…”

“…Therefore, when the latter collides with nuclei, inelastic processes are the most probable ones: the deuteron breakup in the nuclear Coulomb field (mainly at low deuteron energies) and the deuteron stripping, when one of deuteron nucleons is absorbed by the target whereas the other is released as a reaction product. In the intermediate energy interval, the stripping reaction is mainly a result of direct interaction (the capture of deuteron nucleon by the nucleus) [3].…”

“…Here, Gaussian functions can be used as basis functions in expansions of both wave functions for colliding nuclei (variational problem) and arbitrary profile functions. It is noteworthy that a similar procedure was extensively employed in the variational approach in describing bound states of light nuclei [2,3,4], in parametrizations of ground-state charge densities of nuclei [5,6], and in the problems of scattering [7] and deuteron stripping [8]. This makes it possible to calculate analytically respective phase shifts and form factors.…”
