Developing a Conceptual Model for the Causal Effects of Outdoor Play in Preschools Using PLS-SEM

Abstract: This study attempts to establish the causal effects of outdoor play through a conceptual model consisting of six latent constructs. Seventy Penang preschool operators took part in a questionnaire survey conducted from June to July 2021. All of the 70 respondents agreed that outdoor play is important for children’s development even though only 62 respondents implemented outdoor play yards in their preschools. Raw data from these 62 respondents were used to develop the conceptual model by PLS-SEM. Measurement mo… Show more

“…The fit model in PLS-SEM can be analyzed from the Standardized Root Mean Square Residual (SRMR) and Normed Fit Index (NFI) values [ 81 , 82 ]. SRMR shows differences between relationships, which is considered a good fit measure in research models using PLS-SEM [ 62 ].…”

“…The fit model in PLS-SEM is assessed seen from the SRMR and NFI values provided by the SMART-PLS software. According to Yew et al (2022), SRMR value should be less than or equal to 0.10, or at 0.08, to obtain a good fit. Furthermore, the NFI value, which has a relationship with the chi-square of the benchmark model, should be more than 0.8.…”
