The issue of professionally-oriented foreign language teaching is relevant for foreign language teachers and for future professionals whose work lies in the field of intercultural communication. Foreign language skills become one of the essential requirements for technical professionals. One can determine the efficiency of the educational process by the educational tools and materials. An urgent task is to develop the standards for foreign language teaching of master's degree students of engineering specialties. There are typical situations that arise in professional communication in the process of creating a teaching program. Professionals' requirements regarding speech are taken into account. The method of projects in teaching allows master's degree students to show independence in planning, organizing, controlling their activities, studying practical problems of modern age by means of a foreign language in the real information space. Designing the teaching program based on new educational standards imposes new requirements on assessing relevant competencies in master's degree students. Individual work as an integral element of the educational process contributes to the improvement of professional qualifications.

Extra-Curricular Activities as an Important Factor for Developing Subject Qualities of Future Engineers

We examine the need to develop the subjective qualities of students at technical universities based on the analysis of Russian and foreign research on future engineers' training. We consider the peculiarities of future engineers' educational process, based on the importance of extracurricular activities in the development of such qualities. The purpose of the study is to test the hypothesis about the effectiveness of developing the subjective qualities of future engineers by involving them in extracurricular activities that were formed at the initial stage. The paper describes a pedagogical experiment that includes three stages. The set of research methods includes analysis, synthesis, comparison, generalization, pedagogical observation, questionnaire survey, testing, conversation, expert assessments, and statistics. We present different directions and types of activities organized within the experimental work with pedagogical support. Besides, we give examples of extracurricular activities that contribute to the successful development and manifestation of the specified personal qualities in students. The paper contains evidence of the effectiveness of extracurricular student activities as a factor in developing subjective qualities.

The purpose of this study was to determine students’ perception regarding thinking in English as a strategy for creating a better performance for the students’ critical speaking skills. This study used qualitative research and employed observation and interviews to acquire data. Based on the observations, the researchers determined that students in English-speaking courses confront a problem: they still lack self-confidence due to variables such as a lack of vocabulary and a fear of making errors while speaking. Besides, the result of the student’s interview, all of the students gave their positive perceptions about thinking in English. One of the students argued that thinking in English was something important for him as an English learner and it could help him in practicing his speaking skill. Therefore, the researcher thought it was something appropriate to introduce thinking in English as one strategy for the students and as one option to create a better performance for the students' critical speaking skills.
