Development and application of a rapid rehabilitation system for reconstruction of maxillofacial soft-tissue defects related to war and traumatic injuries

Abstract: BackgroundThe application of a maxillofacial prosthesis is an alternative to surgery in functional–aesthetic facial reconstruction. Computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing has opened up a new approach to the fabrication of maxillofacial prostheses. An intelligentized rapid simulative design and manufacturing system for prostheses was developed to facilitate the prosthesis fabrication procedure.MethodsThe rapid simulation design and rapid fabrication system for maxillofacial prostheses consists of th… Show more

“…And contrast CT scan showed no signs of invasion of left brachial vein. As several literature reported, we agree that reducing the tumor volume by fluid aspiration via a small incision of the tumor wall facilitate the dissection for removing the huge mediastinal tumors [3-6]. During dissection of the giant mediastinal tumors, continued traction the tumor via the sutures placed on the tumor can prevent from compressing of the heart to avoid circulatory collapse.…”

“…Jiao et al fabricated a silicone mold by vacuum casting the paper model of the mirrored ear obtained by spiral CT scan and laminated object manufacturing technique. Later Ciocca et al and Bai et al designed and fabricated ear molds using CAD/CAM. Advanced technologies such as laser scanning, rapid prototyping (RP), and digital color matching by spectrophotometry have also been used to prosthetically rehabilitate patients suffering from microtia …”
