This study aims to interpret the concept of debt based on social phenomenon on Patron-Client’s fishermen working-relationship in Pantai Sungai Bakau, Serayu, East Kalimantan. By using an interpretive paradigm, this study tries to interpret debt with a a case study research design. The data was obtained by conducting in-depth interviews with community of fishermen and fish collector (the owner of shipyard) who were the key informants. the method uses snowballing system for additional informants. The results of the interviews were grouped and data reduction was carried out before being analyzed and drawing conclusions or verification. Triangulation was also carried out with different question techniques that were asked to confirm the validity of the data to the surrounding community as additional informants. By using the triangulation technique, the researcher believes that the data obtained is valid. The results of this study found that the concept of debt have been interpreted as an obligation, family and trust relationship, and a mutually beneficial relationship on the context of Patron-Client working-relationship. Empirically, on the broader meaning of debt, debt does not only as a form of obligation between the capital owner and the recipient of capital in the context of Patron-Client’s working-relationship, but debt should also be able to make familial relationship with the element of trust between them.

Local wisdom is frequently used by communities in managing their coastal resources without a precise measure of sustainability. As a result, the government must develop a standard for determining the wisdom of these practices. This study aimed to create such a standard, followed by a trial to evaluate management practices in Pangandaran coastal tourism. This qualitative case study included a literature review, direct observations, and in-depth interviews with fish farmers and fishers. They are standardizing instrument criteria for sustainable fishery resource management-defined wisdom. Such wisdom is divided into fundamental thinking (factual knowledge) and management practices (procedural knowledge). Each consists of five criteria: ecosystem and resource management, planning, governance, technology, and social and economic development. Each criterion has a specific rating indicator and parameter. The results show differences in the level of wisdom between the fish farmer and the fishers. Regarding basic thinking, fishers’ wisdom level is weak in three out of five criteria. Fishers reach a moderate wisdom level concerning fishing gear and technical criteria and a strong level on social and economic criteria. In contrast, the fish farmer is moderate to strong for four criteria and weak for the resources and ecosystems criterion. Regarding management practices, in general, fish farmers and fishers have the same level of wisdom. Both are weak in the ecosystem and resources, planning, and institutional criteria, while the fishing gear criteria reach moderate levels and the socio-economic criteria reach high levels.

One of most potential activity regarding fisheries business in Pangandaran Regency is seafood restaurants which holds prospect for tourists. However, there are still many restaurants that sell conservationally-important biota. The purpose of this study is to identify the conservation status of marine biota sold in restaurants in Pangandaran Regency. Data was collected by observation or direct survey by purposive sampling in six seafood restaurants. The fish species were then identified for their conservation status based on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES). The identification results show that there were biotas included in the IUCN which were Lanjaman Shark (Carcharhinus sealei) with IUCN Appendix II CITES status, Black Fin Shark (Carcharhinus melanopterus) with IUCN Near Threatened (NT) status and Mobula Stingray (Mobula eregoodootenkee) with Endangered status. The results of this study indicated that conservation efforts need to be strengthened.
